I have embroidered since I was a child and remember my grandmother teaching me unsuccessfully how to work feather stitch, which I now can do, I must add!
I was accepted onto the Royal school of Needlework’s apprenticeship scheme after I finished school and there I studied all forms of hand embroidery. After graduating I was lucky enough to get a job in their commercial studio and have worked there for almost 30 years. In that time I have stitched on pop stars shoes, a royal wedding dress, 17th century embroideries and the current king and queens robes of state and estate amongst other things.
After graduating I also started my teaching career for the school and for private institutions such as Traquair House. I continue to teach for the school and offer private one to one tutoring from my home in south west London.
In 2018 I published my first book, Thread Painting and Silk Shading - Techniques and projects. This has been a huge success for me and had a second print run a year later.
I continue to work part time at the Royal School of Needlework, teaching on the Professional Embroidery Tutor programme and am a Senior stitcher in the studio.
I write for magazines, make hand embroidered jewellery and continue to create embroidered art works for sale.
